History of Sariya

Sariya was once part of proud Raigarh kingdom, an indigenous small kingdom founded by Raj Gond Dynasty in 17th century. Although most people of Sariya and Raigarh are slowly moving ahead with today’s changing times, but they still get nostalgic about this yesteryear great kingdom. One of the prominent reasons for this fondness is vast cultural heritage left behind by this kingdom. This vast heritage is what eventually helped in making Raigarh District the cultural capital of Chhattisgarh state. This proud and cultural kingdom though was reduced into a small princely state under British around 18th century. Since then the kingdom started stagnating and eventually ceased to exist in 1948 when it acceded to Union of India. Today the only last remaining symbols of Raigarh kingdom is Moti Mahal near Raigarh city. Although this historical monument is in a very bad shape today, but this fact hardly diminishes its historical importance.

Economy of Sariya

Economy of Sariya is understandably depends solely on agriculture for its sustenance, as its economic characteristics are no different from any other small village. More than 60% of employable labourers derive their livelihood directly and indirectly from agriculture, while rest derives employment from nearby industries. Speaking about industries, then Sariya’s local labourers have quite a few options for them. Nearby cities like Dabhra and Raigarh have more than decent number of industries. In fact Raigarh District is one of the emerging Districts of Chhattisgarh state. Sariya’s local employed in all these nearby and emerging industries help in drawing much needed capital for its local economy.

Healthcare in Sariya

Few local hospitals and few community healthcare and primary healthcare centers in adjoining towns are only few options available for the inhabitants if Sariya. This limited and ineffective infrastructure is obviously not good enough to cure many complicated and life threatening diseases. When faced with such diseases Sariya’s patient have to obviously flock to urban cities like Raigarh and Dabhara cities for medical treatment. Sariya patients, however, are relieved by the fact that there are at least decent numbers of chemist shops and even few general clinics available here.

Banks understandably have a very marginal presence here. As of today only one or two banks are operating their branches here. Besides, Sariya’s locals can also avail services of banks operating in adjoining villages. Apart from these few available banks, there are also decent numbers of money lenders and small micro financial companies operating here. Their presence is always helpful in a very small and underdeveloped village like Sariya. Not just for compensating for absence of banks, but also for building local economy. That said, local people here are very much craving for modern banking services and hence they want few more banks to open in their small village.
